Flower club class (only clubs affiliated to NAFAS may enter)
A1
An allowance of £35 towards staging the exhibit will be paid to each club entering A1.
A complimentary admission ticket will be given to each of the two exhibitors in the club class, in addition to their exhibitor badges. Also, the chairman of each club entering this class will receive two complimentary admission tickets.The North of England Horticultural Society Cup will be awarded to the winning exhibit in Class A1.

A5 ‘A place to dream’ An exhibit staged on a diagonal show bench raised 75cm from the ground. Space allowed, front edges 76cm wide x 76cm deep x 98cm high. Length of diagonal 107.5cm. A8 ‘Secrets lie within’ An exhibit staged in a lighted niche with an oval front opening. Space allowed 76cm wide x 61cm deep x 99cm high on staging raised 75cm from the ground. A9 ‘Opulence’ An exhibit staged in a lighted niche with a rectangular front opening of 60cm wide x 76cm high. Space allowed 76cm wide x 61cm deep x 99cm high on staging raised 75cm from the ground. A10 ‘A great romance’ An exhibit staged on a board 1m square at ground level and painted Crown Mimosa Solo emulsion, with a background of off white ruched fabric. No backboard permitted. A12 ‘Sea creature’ A miniature exhibit staged in a lighted niche. Plant material to predominate. This exhibit may be submitted already prepared, but must not exceed 10cm in width, depth and height. A13 ‘Candy store’ An exhibit staged by juniors UNAIDED on a straight showbench. Space allowed 61cm wide x 61cm deep x 76cm high, on staging 75cm from the ground and painted Crown Mimosa Solo emulsion. This exhibit may be submitted already prepared. Group A – up to 11 years: Group B – 12 - 15 years.1st prize £14; 2nd £10; 3rd £8; Commendation £6. No entry fee
The Musgrave Hoyle Trophy will be awarded to the Best in Show excluding the flower club class A1 and individual classes A12 and A13.
The Jeannie Watson Trophy will be awarded for the best use of colour in all individual classes.
The Grenfell Medal will be awarded to the competitor gaining the most points in the flower arrangement classes excluding A1 and A13.
All entries will be judged using the new NAFAS Competitions Manual. (yellow book, second edition 2009)
Floristry Classes
B1 ‘Yabba dabba doo’
Create a bridal design to be held in the hand and boutonniere for a cartoon character & her groom. The design can be constructed in any way you choose. State the name of the character. Fresh flowers and foliage must predominate. Accessories may be included. Competitors choosing to design a handtied bouquet should display in water in a vase. To be staged in a niche 60cm wide x 60cm deep but exhibit may trail over the front of the staging if desired.1st prize £50; 2nd £30; 3rd £20 No entry fee.The Mrs J H C Hodgson Trophy will be awarded to the winner of this class.B2 ‘London 2012’ Design a window display to promote one of the events at the 2012 Olympic Games. State which event you have chosen. Natural material must predominate. Accessories may be included. To be staged on a straight showbench raised 75cm from the ground. Background off-white ruched fabric. Space allowed 100cm wide x 90cm deep, maximum height allowed above show bench is 210cm. 1st prize £50; 2nd £30; 3rd £20 No entry fee. The Bretherick Trophy will be awarded to the winner of this class.
B3 Competition for floristry students and others with less than four year’s experience in the flower trade. ‘Flowers for a bridesmaid’ Design something for a bridesmaid of an age of your choice, to carry or wear at her sister’s wedding. Fresh flowers and foliage must predominate. Accessories may be included. To be staged in a niche 60cm wide x 60cm deep x 90cm. 1st prize £35; 2nd £30; 3rd £20 No entry fee.The Passion Flowers Trophy will be awarded to the winner of this class.
B4 Competition for floristry students and others with less than two year’s experience in the flower trade. ‘This is me’ Design an arrangement to reflect your personality, hobbies and interests. On a card describe yourself. Fresh flowers and foliage must predominate. Accessories may be included. To be staged in a niche 60cm wide x 60cm deep x 90cm high. 1st prize £35; 2nd £30; 3rd £20 No entry fee.
B5 Competition for floristry students and others with less than two year’s experience in the flower trade. ‘Enjoy …..’ Design an arrangement to attract visitors to a particular UK county. State which county you have chosen using the title of this class i.e. ‘Enjoy .. followed by the name of the county. Fresh flowers and foliage must predominate. Accessories may be included. To be staged in a niche 60cm wide x 60cm deep x 90cm high. 1st prize £35; 2nd £30; 3rd £20 No entry fee
The Chrysal Trophy will be awarded to the best overall exhibit in Classes B4 and B5.
The Florist & Wholesale Buyer Magazine Trophy will be awarded to the Best in Show in the Floristry Classes. (B1- B5).
Floristry entries to be judged in accordance with the UK Floristry Judges Guild.
