Heaviest Onion Competition

Champion grower, Peter Glazebrook, from Newark, smashed the world record for the heaviest onion with a whopping 17lb 15.5oz specimen. The previous record of 16lb 8.37oz was set in 2005.

The public weigh-in for the heaviest onion competition took place at 12 noon on Friday 16 September and the announcement of the new record received a rapturous welcome as visitors to the show cheered Peter's success.

The heaviest onion competition is part of the National Onion Championship run by the Harrogate Flower Shows and is sponsored by Kitchen Garden.
