#kerbcouture - from bare walls to blooming banging!
From ground-breaking flower graffiti to the ultimate in urban planting chic, the 2019 Harrogate Spring Flower Show will be showcasing the potential for petal power to transform Britain’s grey streets.
This year’s theme for the show (25 - 28 April 2019) is #kerbcouture, featuring virtuoso ideas for vertical gardens, mini urban oases and a street scene of cutting-edge design ideas for bloom-bombed pubs, shops and furniture, plus an entire wall of graffiti flowers.
Teams from the Harewood florists Leafy Couture, Ripon-based Branching Out and the British cut flower co-operative Flowers from the Farm, will be introducing a flash of floral inspiration to an everyday urban scene to illustrate the benefits of bringing plants and flowers to the streets.
Show Director Nick Smith said: “It’s widely recognised that gardens help to create a real sense of well-being wherever they appear. We wanted to show how, even in the smallest of spaces or bleakest of back yards, flowers and plants can thrive and make a difference. And where no plants can grow, there’s always floral wall art!”
Mural artist Lee Ferry, from Stanley, Co Durham, will be wowing visitors with ways to cheer up dreary courtyards and bare walls by painting a series of colourful street murals live during the show.
To make sure the #kerbcouture street is really banging, break dancers Hannah Thompson and Anas Afriad will also be cutting some shapes three times a day.
Outdoor #kerbcouture attractions include The Blank Wall Project offering ideas for vertical gardens, and Square Yards showcasing tight-space planting to transform even the smallest city corners.
Talks and demonstrations in the StreetTalk Theatre include a session with Mr Plant Geek, Michael Perry, and some gutter gardening as Martin Walker uses everything from dust bins to drainpipes for growing plants!
