Time to hit the streets and talk urban chic with our #kerbcouture live theatre, StreetTalk.
Just because you live in a town or city, doesn’t mean you can’t grow your own fruit and veg. StreetTalk host Martin Walker and allotment guru Phil Gomersall will be giving top tips on reaping urban harvest at 10.30am Thursday to Saturday.
Michael Perry unashamedly refers to himself as Mr Plant Geek, in fact he’s built a whole career around it! He will be joining us at 11.30am on Thursday and Friday of the show to introduce the subject of urban botanicals before you get a chance to see them in action with a demonstration of cocktails by Slingsby’s Gin.
Michael, who began growing green fingers among his grandparents’ exhibition chrysanthemums and dahlias, started his horticultural career with the mail-order company Thompson and Morgan. After appearing on TV shopping channels, he began to make guest appearances on programmes like The Alan Titchmarsh Show, The One Show and This Morning, and now has his own series on QVC. He launched the website, Mr Plant Geek, with a blog documenting his travels around Costa Rica.
From Central American jungle to city alleyways, Michael will be giving his own unique perspective on urban gardening at 2pm.
Big ideas for small spaces
BBC Radio York’s Nigel Harrison will take to the street to talk about big ideas for small spaces at 12.45pm. Flower show favourite, Nigel returns to the stage with advice and inspiration for making the most of tight courtyards and tiny plots by finding the right plants for the right place.
Gutter Gardening is the theme for Martin Walker’s session at 1.30pm, when he uses everything from a drain pipe to a dustbin to create an imaginative and inexpensive planter to transform even the most boring of spaces.
He is back at 2.45pm to wrap up the day’s events with his ever-popular banter spot with Nigel Harrison. Join the dynamic duo for a humour-filled half hour of gardening chat!
