Show Gardens at Spring

From breathtaking planting schemes to creative focal points, this year’s Show Gardens are set to impress. Whether you’re drawn to edible gardens, artistic influences, or sustainable designs, you’ll find plenty of ideas to take home.

Here’s a sneak peek at the inspiring gardens on display:

Hadean Show Garden

Water’s Edge Retreat is a contemporary show garden that transforms a linear urban plot into a tranquil, immersive sanctuary, guiding visitors through a sequence of spaces to a secluded seating area.

Layered planting, decorative fencing, and artwork create distinct zones with individual character. A softly edged pond contrasts with a bold boardwalk, while a raised pool and timber screen frame views and reflect changing light. An informal path leads to an elevated patio surrounded by textural planting, trees, and grasses, with a perforated plinth showcasing a focal artwork.

Planting is illustrative and combines seasonal interest, structure, and UK and New Zealand influences.

Hazel and Green

Gardens That Grow With You celebrates how outdoor spaces evolve alongside us, reflecting change, creativity, and care over time.

Arranged in a circular layout around a central tree - a symbol of continuity - the garden features six raised borders, each exploring a distinct theme: edible, sensory, family, wildlife, drought-tolerant, and seasonal planting. Visitors are invited to move through the space, experiencing a rich variety of textures, scents, and colours, all unified within a cohesive design.

Natural materials, timber beds, and soft planting create a calm setting, while sustainable choices underpin the scheme. Designed for real life, the garden demonstrates how planting can adapt to different needs, showing that gardens, like people, grow and change over time.

“The Things That Make Me Different, Make Me” is inspired by Winnie the Pooh and celebrates Horticap’s belief that everyone has something special to offer. The garden tells a story of friendship, connection, and belonging, showing how we can grow together even when we’re all a little different.

A rustic wooden Pooh bridge crosses a hand-painted stream, ready for playful Pooh sticks, while honey pots invite sharing. Nearby, a buzzing bee tree and the watchful Owl add whimsy, and a log seating area encourages calm reflection. Handmade figures of Pooh and friends bring colour and fun to the space.

Created by Horticap students, volunteers, and staff, the garden will be a joyful tribute to teamwork, kindness, and celebrating what makes each of us unique.

New Build Manifesto

Yorkshire Pastoral captures the charm of the Yorkshire Dales, blending stone-walled pastures, wildflower meadows, native trees, and life-sized willow sheep. A central tree within a dry stone wall provides structure, while meadow-inspired planting flows from low groundcovers to taller perennials, creating depth and seasonal interest.

Handcrafted walls, timber edging, and a running stream add authenticity, evoking the region’s landscape. Visitors will enjoy a calm central space framed by playful surroundings, celebrating pastoral life and the enduring bond between farming, craft, and landscape.
